Neurodiversity-Affirming Care

Counseling Support for Autism, Intellectual Disability, and ADHD

Navigating the world with neurodevelopmental differences comes with unique strengths and challenges. At Aivy Therapy and Consult, we offer a safe, compassionate, and neurodiversity-affirming space for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability (ID), and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) to explore their experiences, build on their strengths, and develop meaningful life skills.

We understand that each person is unique, not defined by a diagnosis, but by their individuality, creativity, and potential. Our counseling approach is tailored, person-centered, and strengths-based, incorporating strategies that are accessible, respectful, and adapted to each client's communication style, sensory needs, and cognitive profile.

Our Approach Includes:

Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy

We honor and validate different ways of thinking, feeling, and engaging with the world, working to reduce shame and support self-understanding and empowerment.

Skill Building and Emotional Regulation

We support clients in developing coping strategies for anxiety, frustration, sensory overload, and other challenges that may arise at home, school, or in social environments.

Structured and Flexible Sessions

Whether a client thrives with routine or needs more flexibility, we adapt our methods to meet them where they are, using visual supports, concrete language, and creative tools.

Behavioral and Relational Support

We collaborate with families, caregivers, and educators when appropriate, promoting consistent, respectful, and developmentally informed support across settings.

Trauma-Informed and Inclusive Care

Many neurodivergent individuals have faced misunderstanding, exclusion, or trauma. We offer a space where all parts of a person are welcomed and supported.

Who We Work With:

  • Children, teens, and adults with autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or ADHD
  • Individuals experiencing transitions, burnout, or identity-related stress
  • Families and caregivers seeking guidance and support
  • People with co-occurring mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, or trauma

We believe that healing, growth, and self-acceptance are possible for everyone. Together, we work at your pace, in your way, to build skills, resilience, and a deeper sense of self.

Pain Management

We offer comprehensive support for individuals living with chronic pain. Our evidence-based approaches, including mindfulness-based techniques, are designed to help manage physical discomfort, reduce stress, and improve daily functioning. We recognize the complex connection between the mind and body and aim to support overall well-being and quality of life.

Helping You Find the Right Support for You or Your Loved Ones

Mental Health Systems Navigation Consultation

Navigating the mental health system can feel overwhelming with long waitlists, unclear pathways, and complex services that often leave individuals and families feeling lost or unsupported.

Our Mental Health Systems Navigation Consultation offers compassionate, personalized guidance to help you understand what services are available, how to access them, and what might be the best fit for your needs or the needs of someone you care about. Whether you are facing challenges yourself or trying to support a loved one, this consultation provides clarity, direction, and practical next steps.

Together, we will work to:

  • Identify and prioritize your or your loved one's unique mental health needs
  • Map out appropriate community, clinical, or private resources in your area
  • Understand how the Ontario mental health system works and how to advocate within it
  • Learn how to support someone through their mental health journey, without burning out yourself
  • Help you make appropriate referrals

You do not have to do this alone. This service is here to support you with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to move forward with care, hope, and a solid plan.

Refugee & Immigrant Mental Health

Immigrating to a new country can bring hope and opportunity, but it can also come with loss, uncertainty, cultural adjustment, and experiences of trauma or displacement. We provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed therapy tailored to the unique journeys of immigrants and refugees.

Our approach recognizes the strength, resilience, and courage it takes to rebuild life in a new environment. At the same time, we understand the emotional impact of migration stress, family separation, language barriers, acculturation challenges, and past traumatic experiences.

In our work together, you will find a safe, respectful space where your story is honored. Therapy may focus on:

Processing trauma and pre-migration experiences

Managing anxiety, depression, or adjustment stress

Navigating identity and cultural transitions

Strengthening family relationships across generations

Building coping skills and resilience in a new environment

Making referrals to community agencies for additional support

Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP)

We are pleased to support eligible clients covered under the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP). The IFHP provides temporary health coverage for refugees, protected persons, and certain other eligible groups who are not yet covered by provincial or territorial health insurance.

Through IFHP, approved individuals may receive coverage for mental health services, including counseling and psychotherapy. If you are eligible for IFHP, we can guide you through the process of accessing therapy services under this program and help clarify any documentation or authorization requirements.

Our goal is to reduce barriers to care and ensure that financial or system navigation challenges do not prevent you from receiving the support you deserve.
