Clinical Social Worker & Lead Therapist

Omo Ibhawoh - Lead Therapist

Everyone's Journey is Different

At Aivy Therapy and Consult, we recognize that no two people walk the same path. Your experiences, your challenges, your strengths - they're uniquely yours.

We take time to understand your specific needs, cultural background, and personal goals. Our therapy honors your individuality while providing evidence-based care that truly resonates with who you are.

Your story matters, and your healing should reflect that.

Wellness Is a Right

As a mother of three, Omo Ibhawoh brings a unique perspective to her practice. She knows the sleepless nights, the constant juggling, and the quiet moments of doubt that come with balancing family, work, and personal wellness. This lived experience shapes every conversation she has with her clients.

Omo's passion extends far beyond her therapy room. As one of the experienced Black therapists in Hamilton, she understands the importance of culturally responsive care. She actively works to expand mental health access across Canada and collaborates with partners in Nigeria to normalize mental health conversations. For her, therapy should be as accessible and stigma-free as visiting your family doctor.

Every day, she works toward making mental wellness a fundamental right for all.

Professional Background

Two decades of clinical expertise and compassionate care

Omo Ibhawoh is a dedicated clinical social worker registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Victoria and a Master of Social Work from Dalhousie University, where she specialized in physical and mental health.

With over 20 years of experience in community health agencies and hospital settings, Omo has provided clinical support to individuals living with mental health challenges, addictions, and developmental disabilities. Her work is deeply rooted in evidence-based practices and a commitment to person-centred care.

Extensive Training & Certifications

Omo has pursued extensive additional training in a range of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She is also a certified Compassion Fatigue Specialist and holds clinical certification in trauma counselling. Her training includes Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), anger management, motivational interviewing, and psychoeducation.

Working with youth and adults from diverse and intersectional backgrounds, Omo understands the importance of creating a safe, collaborative, and affirming therapeutic space. Her lived experience and professional journey give her a unique lens to recognize and validate the complex social and systemic barriers that individuals may face. This perspective informs her work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, PTSD (including race-based trauma), psychosis, chronic pain, grief, domestic abuse, and marginalization.

Omo recognizes that therapy flourishes in an environment where clients feel truly seen, heard, and supported. She believes that a compassionate and respectful therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change, one that allows individuals to connect with their inner strengths, make sense of their stories, and move toward healing, growth, and lasting well-being.
